The Contribution of Russian and Caucasian Press to the Self-identification of the Mountain Peoples (XIX century)

In article on the basis of little-studied archival and documentary materials, the author considers the contribution of the Russian and Caucasian press in the self-identification of peoples. It stated that the Caucasian periodicals played a huge role in the dissemination of education and knowledge among the numerous peoples of the Russian Empire. Thanks to periodicals many readers know the truth about this region, which undoubtedly contributed to the strengthening of friendly relations between all peoples of the centre and the outskirts of the Great Russian Empire. The author concludes that with the help of local periodicals is formed the vanguard of the national consciousness of mountain intellectuals.

Semiotic and Identification Analysis of Media Texts on Media Education Classes With Students

Semiotic analysis of media texts is an analysis of the language of signs and symbols in media texts. This analysis is closely linked to the iconographic analysis. Semiotic analysis of media texts for training purposes based on the semiotic theory of media (Semiotic Approach, Le decodage des medias), grounded in the work of such theorists as R. Barthes, C. Metz, U. Eco and others. Identification analysis is the recognition / identification of hidden messages in media texts, because media agencies often offer simplistic solutions for complex problems. The media educators can use in this area educational games with practical content, aimed at audience understanding how certain ideas, problems can be encoded, camouflaged in the media text. This article presented the main directions for Semiotic and Identification analysis on media education classes for student audience, including the examples of creative problems and issues associated with this type of the analysis in the context of media education problems, i.e. based on six key concepts of media literacy education: agency, category, language, technology, audience, representation. The author supposes that this analysis of media texts on media education classes can significantly develop media competence of students, including critical thinking and perception.

Znachkovоe Partnership of Hetmanate in the 18th Century: Social Portrait of the Community

The article explores the origin, attributes of social status and public perception of so called Znachkovoe (badge) partnership – the inferior level of Cossack officership (starshina) in the epoch of political autonomy of Left-bank Ukraine under the rule of Russian Empire (Hetmanate). I. Kryvosheia analyzes the interdependence between functions of znachkovoe partnership of Hetmanate in the 18th century and its social position. The author argues that there was the obvious disproportion between responsibilities and privileges of this estate group. But very high prestige of starshina’s membership was recognized as real compensation for weighty duties.

On the basis of sea and river registers reconstructed biographies of the floating cranes of the Arkhangelsk's port by Votkinsk's producing. It is shown that the currently running Kotlas crane PK-1 – one of these cranes. The authors express their gratitude to the photographer of the Votkinsk's plant E. Zorina for providing photographs.

The Pilgrimage of the Moslems of the North Caucasus in light of the Russian Policy in the second-half XIX – the beginning of XX centuries

The article states the problems of the pilgrimage of the Moslems of the North Caucasus in the mirror of the state Russian policy of second-half XIX – the beginning of XX centuries. Since the conquest of the Caucasus religious policy was posed by the Russian Empire at the forefront, so the subject requires rethinking from the current position, the more that it is relevant to this day. It is proved that the annexation of the Muslim Caucasus to Russia's Muslim pilgrimage (Hajj) was governed by the state. In the end, to the beginning of the twentieth century legal framework for a pilgrimage as a whole was created.

There is a growing interest in the study of emotions in historical science. This turn requires clarification of the source base. This article analyzes the possibilities private correspondence for the study "emotional history." On the basis of a complex epistolary documents (letters from the provincial cities of the USSR in the Red Army in November-December 1939) is considered "emotional snapshot" of everyday citizens. Revealed that a large impact on their vitality by factors such as the beginning of the Soviet-Finnish War and the level of material security.
